After years of pop-ups, food halls, and festival appearances, Chef Anthony Plascencia has brought his celebrated seafood concept, Mariscos Los Corchos, to a permanent home in East Los Angeles. The restaurant, which officially opened in February 2026, delivers the bold flavors and coastal traditions that have earned it a devoted following in Los Angeles.

Located at 5328 E. Beverly Boulevard, the new Mariscos Los Corchos occupies a formerly unassuming commercial space transformed into a bright, airy dining room. Whitewashed walls and wooden tables complement large windows that fill the 48-seat space with natural light, while a mesquite grill outside sends smoky aromas onto the street, drawing in residents and visitors alike.

Plascencia grew up in Puerta de Mangos, a coastal town near Santiago Ixcuintla in the Mexican state of Nayarit. The region’s seafood traditions — whole fish grilled over open mesquite fires and seasoned with adobo — strongly influenced his culinary approach. Over time, he translated those coastal flavors into a mobile and pop-up dining experience across Los Angeles, building a reputation for fresh, bold, and authentic Mexican seafood.

Before establishing a permanent location, Mariscos Los Corchos operated in a variety of temporary spaces, including parking lots, food halls, and local festivals. Its distinctive dishes and smoky, charred flavors earned a loyal following, often drawing long lines of diners eager for a taste of the Pacific coast in the heart of Los Angeles.

The centerpiece of the menu is pescado zarandeado, a traditional Mexican preparation of whole fish. The term “zarandeado” refers to the rhythmic back-and-forth motion used to cook the fish evenly over an open flame. Plascencia’s approach involves marinating fresh fish in adobo and grilling it over mesquite coals, producing a smoky exterior while keeping the meat tender and flavorful.

The dish is served with corn tortillas, house-made salsas, and fresh garnishes such as red onion and cucumber, allowing diners to assemble each bite at the table. This interactive style reflects the communal dining traditions of Nayarit and remains a highlight of the restaurant experience.

Beyond the zarandeado fish, the menu includes a variety of traditional and inventive offerings. Spicy shrimp tostadas, citrus-forward aguachiles, and birria de pescado showcase coastal Mexican flavors, while creative dishes such as oyster sopes with dill crema and crab tinga tostadas bring a contemporary twist. Each dish emphasizes freshness and bold flavors, bridging the line between traditional cuisine and modern innovation.

Family involvement has been central to Mariscos Los Corchos since its early pop-up days. Plascencia’s relatives contributed to recipe development and operations, establishing a restaurant culture rooted in collaboration and shared heritage. The East L.A. location continues this ethos, emphasizing community engagement and a sense of belonging for local diners.

East Los Angeles is recognized for its diverse and dynamic food scene, from traditional Mexican eateries to modern fusion concepts. Mariscos Los Corchos adds to this landscape by providing a permanent space dedicated to regional Mexican seafood, preserving coastal culinary traditions while introducing innovative dishes.

Since opening, the restaurant has drawn attention for its combination of authentic flavors, mesquite-grilled seafood, and approachable dining environment. It represents a growing trend in East L.A. where chefs are translating regional Mexican cuisines into permanent, community-centered dining experiences.

With its doors now open, Mariscos Los Corchos is positioned to become a staple of the East L.A. dining scene, offering a taste of Mexico’s Pacific coast in the heart of Los Angeles.
